Hospital bystander service in Galle — questions families ask.
Both, at the same rate. Teaching Hospital Karapitiya is the tertiary hospital for the whole southern province and takes nearly every serious admission from Galle, and we place attendants on its wards as well as at Asiri Galle on Wakwella Road and Ruhunu Hospital. Cover is priced by shift length, so Karapitiya costs what a private room costs. The job is different, though: a teaching hospital ward is staffed on the assumption that a family bystander handles feeding, washing, the overnight watch and the pharmacy queue, while a private hospital has that nursing and needs one consistent person instead. Karapitiya admits attendants on its own rules, generally one pass per patient.
Cover is priced by shift length rather than staff grade. A six-hour shift is LKR 4,500/shift, a twelve-hour shift is LKR 5,500/shift and continuous cover is LKR 6,500/day. Dangedara, Karapitiya and Hirimbura carry no travel supplement.
Yes, and that is usually the point. Our attendants for Galle live near the hospitals, so cover can begin while you are still on the Southern Expressway or the coast road. You arrive to someone who has already been there for the morning.
