When should I call my parents from Sydney?
Late morning works well. An 11am call from Sydney reaches Colombo at 6:30am, as the household wakes. Your evening lands in their mid-afternoon, by which point the day is already written up and sent.
My siblings and I disagree. Where do we start?
With the written assessment. It gives everyone in Sydney, Colombo and wherever else the same account of what your parents can and cannot manage. Most disagreements are really about differing memories of different visits, and they tend to settle once somebody writes it down.
Where the care actually happens

Sydney families ask about geography more than most, usually because their parents are not in Colombo at all. Plenty of this community came from Kandy, Kurunegala and the north, and moved to Sydney rather than to the capital.
That is not a problem. We coordinate from Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte but place carers island-wide, and a placement in Jaffna or Batticaloa is charged at the same daily rate as one in Colombo 7. There is no district loading and no minimum distance.
Where it does matter is speed. Placements in and around the capital are typically filled fastest, simply because more vetted carers live there. Rural placements occasionally take the full fourteen days rather than a few, which we will tell you honestly at the assessment rather than after you commit.
