Home Care in
Sri Lanka
for Abu Dhabi Families.
Home care in Sri Lanka for Abu Dhabi families is built around rotations. Site work, plant shifts and hospital rosters do not bend for a phone call from Colombo, let alone a fortnight of leave. BetterHands places a vetted carer in your parents home and writes up every shift, so Abu Dhabi can read it whenever the rotation allows.

Industry, government, and long rotations
Why Abu Dhabi Families Arrange Home Care in Sri Lanka.
Abu Dhabi holds a large Sri Lankan workforce, weighted towards energy, construction, healthcare and government contracting, and concentrated around Mussafah and Mohammed Bin Zayed City.
A great many live in company accommodation and work rotations rather than office hours. Days off arrive in blocks, and rarely on the day something goes wrong at home.
As a result the usual advice to simply call more often does not fit. What works instead is professional home care with a written record you can read when you come off shift.
- Rotation and site workers who cannot take a call for a full shift
- Company accommodation, where personal leave is scheduled well in advance
- Households sending the bulk of a salary home every month
- Parents in Sri Lanka with no relative nearby who can attend quickly

The block of leave never lands when you need it
Getting Home from Abu Dhabi: Why Leave Will Not Stretch.
Abu Dhabi rotations give you time off in chunks, months apart and fixed long in advance. Therefore the odds of being free in the week your father is discharged are genuinely poor.
Leave arrives in blocks
Rotation leave is planned months out and tied to a crew schedule. Moving it because of an emergency at home affects other people, which is why it is so often declined.
Site work is unreachable
On a plant or a site you may be genuinely uncontactable for a full shift. Anything urgent has to proceed without you, or it does not proceed at all.
Direct flights do not help
Abu Dhabi has direct services to Colombo, and they are irrelevant if the roster says you are working. The constraint was never the aircraft.
Reporting designed for people who cannot take calls
The welfare update is written at the end of each Sri Lankan shift rather than delivered by phone. You read a week of appetite, sleep, medication and mood in one sitting when you come off rotation.
That also removes the problem of a parent who insists everything is fine. A written record shows the pattern, and patterns are what actually signal that something is changing.
Agreed in advance, not invented at 3am
Decisions to Make Before You Need Them.
If you can be unreachable for twelve hours at a stretch, the escalation plan is not a formality. It is the part that has to work without you.
Who we ring first
One named person outside your rotation, and one contact in Sri Lanka who can physically attend. Agreed and recorded before the placement starts.
Which hospital
Named in advance with a second choice, so the decision is never taken by whoever happens to be available.
What happens on shift
We plan on the assumption you are uncontactable. Everything time-critical is authorised in advance so nothing waits on a call you cannot take.

Where our Abu Dhabi families live
Serving Sri Lankan Families Across Abu Dhabi.
The care always happens in Sri Lanka. What differs across the emirate is the shift pattern, and how much of the month a worker is genuinely reachable.
Mussafah
The industrial heart of the emirate and where most of our Abu Dhabi enquiries begin. Heavily rotation-based, with much of the workforce in company accommodation.
Mohammed Bin Zayed City
Dense residential and more settled, with families rather than single workers. A mix of trades, healthcare and government contracting.
Khalifa City
Quieter and more suburban, weighted towards professional and healthcare households working conventional hours.
Al Danah
Central city living, close to the older commercial districts, with many in hospitality, retail and administration.
Before you commit
What Abu Dhabi Families Ask Before They Commit.
I am on rotation. Can this still work?
It is designed for it. The welfare update is written after each shift rather than phoned, so nothing depends on you being reachable, and the escalation plan assumes you will be uncontactable for long stretches.
Does my Abu Dhabi insurance cover my parents?
No. Cover regulated by the Department of Health — Abu Dhabi applies to you inside the emirate. It pays nothing towards a carer in Sri Lanka, whatever your policy tier.
Who is accountable if standards slip?
BetterHands is. Carers are employed and payrolled through us, not introduced and forgotten. One team owns the placement, there is a number to ring, and the replacement guarantee has no cap.
Where the care actually happens
Island-wide coverage in Sri Lanka.
BetterHands coordinates carers from our office in Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte, just outside Colombo. Placements run island-wide, including Kandy, Galle, Negombo, Matara and Jaffna.
No district loading applies. A placement two hours from the capital costs the same daily rate as one in Colombo 7. Families discharged from the National Hospital of Sri Lanka or private hospitals are transitioned home directly.

Questions from Abu Dhabi
Frequently Asked Questions from Abu Dhabi Families.
Yes, and without taking leave. The free assessment happens with your parents in Sri Lanka while you join by phone or video. Matching, approval and payment are all handled remotely.
Sri Lanka is an hour and a half ahead of the UAE, and the gap is fixed because neither country observes daylight saving. The time zone is genuinely not the obstacle here.
It is the situation we plan for. The escalation plan names who is called and which hospital is used, and it authorises the carer and our office to act on time-critical matters without waiting for you.
No. Mandatory cover in the Abu Dhabi emirate is tied to your residency and treats you here. It does not extend to a parent overseas, and it would not fund home care even during a visit.
Rarely. Sponsorship involves salary thresholds, a deposit, private medical cover at older-age premiums, and annual renewal. It also moves elderly parents away from everyone they know, which many families conclude is the wrong trade.
Most placements begin within seventy-two hours of an approved care plan. Where a parent is being discharged from hospital we work to the discharge date instead, and the assessment is usually arranged within a day or two.
Yes. Fees are charged in Sri Lankan rupees, which keeps daily cover realistic against a Gulf salary, and most families pay by international transfer with a monthly invoice.
Yes. Language is a formal matching factor alongside cooking, religious observance, temperament and medical experience, and it is agreed before the placement begins.
BetterHands nurses are registered with Sri Lanka's Private Health Services Regulatory Council. Cover regulated by the Department of Health — Abu Dhabi applies inside the UAE only. Visa, sponsorship and insurance rules change periodically and should be confirmed against official sources for your circumstances.
The roster does not care what happened in Colombo.
Rotation work is unforgiving about timing. Leave is booked months ahead, shifts belong to a crew, and none of it rearranges because a parent was admitted on a Thursday.
A vetted carer in the house, and a plan that runs while you are unreachable. Home nursing when the condition calls for it. A written record you read when you come off shift.
The assessment is free, needs no leave, and commits you to nothing. Sometimes it ends with us saying your parents are managing better than feared. Either way the cover does not depend on your roster.
